WHAT HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED:
JMEC has been structural engineer for a project involving dredging of Lagoon 5 and clearing the build-up of rip-raps in the outfall and culvert.
The Bayview Outfall Weir Structure is located near 2811 Bayview Drive in the City of Alameda, California. The inner chamber of the weir structure is connected to a reinforced concrete culvert about 345-ft long. This culvert continues with an 80-ft long reinforced concrete open channel that empties the flow into the San Francisco Bay at the south shore of Alameda. At the end of the outfall culvert, there was a security metal grating that was severely corroded and fell to the bottom of the culvert.
The work in general involved removing and disposing the old security metal grating at the end of culvert, removing sediments buildup and rocks in the concrete channel and culvert that were interfering with the construction of new security metal grating, removed unsound concrete and patched up loose concrete area that were affecting the structural integrity of concrete channel. Badly deteriorated reinforced concrete section was completely removed and reconstructed. Cracked and spalled concrete in the channel wall were repaired to ensure positive support for the new security metal grating located in front of the culvert and underneath the observation pier.
